Factors To Consider When Purchasing A New Lawn Mower

Are you in the market for a new lawn mower? If so, you probably realize that there are many manufacturers out there producing excellent machines. This is both good and bad.

The good side is that you have a lot to pick from. You won’t be stuck with the only model there is, or the one that is closest to what you want out of a group that isn’t all that great. But the down side is that there are so many choices now you may well become overwhelmed.

First, you need to make the basic decision of which kind of grass cutter to get: ride on, or walk behind? If you choose to walk, you then narrow your choice to gasoline or electric. You’ll also want to grab an edger, since a lawn mower can’t reach all of the spots in the lawn.

Back to the mower, though. Once you decide what type of push mower you want, electric or gas, you can then look at the excellent machines produced by the top manufacturers in the field, and choose the best one in your price range.

Excellent gas powered walk behind mowers are made by MTD, Snapper, Toro, and Reel. On the other hand, if you want a quieter machine or are worried about saving energy, try a cordless electric model by Black & Decker, Honda, or Simplicity.

For larger lawn areas, or if you are doing commercial mowing, a walk-behind mower just won’t do. You’ll want to get a ride on mower instead. For this type of mower, you should consider Murray, Husqvarna, and John Deere. Their mowers are very high quality and receive excellent reviews. They also have zero- turn capability.

Regardless of the quality of the mower you purchase, you’ll have to do maintenance and repair. It’s the nature of machinery to wear out. Common trouble spots are belts, blades, and motors.

Your mulching deck will probably last the life of the machine. Do be careful of the engine though. Keep it oiled, and don’t let gasoline sit unused in the tank. The engine is expensive to replace, so keeping up with maintenance is well worthwhile.
